DARPA’s EXACTO (Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance) program has developed first – ever guided bullets, smart bullets. The .50 caliber bullets will be able to maneuver itself in the direction of the target.
Usually, snipers facing a windy, extreme weather would always wish something like this would be able to help him blow up his/her target. Now, with Smart Bullet, snipers can think less about wind factor, gravity factor and many other natural factors, and also about running targets.
The bullet will maneuver itself after it has been shot. The guidance system will keep track of all the factors that plays in while its in the air. A better accuracy and faster results for the snipers. This weapon would be able to give snipers, a enhancement and more effectiveness.
The objective of the EXACTO program is to revolutionize rifle accuracy and range by developing the first ever guided small-caliber bullet.
Also the sniper would be able to pop his/her targets at both day and night.
Technology development in Phase II included the design, integration and demonstration of aero-actuation controls, power sources, optical guidance systems, and sensors. The program’s next phase includes a system-level live-fire test and technology refinement to enhance and improve performance.
