Japanese firm Shimizu is planning to build a Solar Power Plant on Moon which could/would probably supply electricity to whole earth.
The Master Plan
The solar panels will be built all around the lunar equator which would generate electricity and then be sent to earth in the form of microwaves or laser which would then be converted to electricity again using convertors.
The company plans to build the solar panels all around the Moon’s Equator, which will be known as Luna Ring after the solar panels are built. The construction of The Luna Ring will begin in the year 2035.
According to the Shimizu’s document in 2010s the terrain and construction of International Space Station on Moon will be started using robots. In 2020s the mining of Moon’s surface and gathering of materials to build the Luna Ring will begin. In 2030s the technologies will be tested and 1 GHz SSPS powerplant would be installed.
Obviously, the cost is going to be high but the Japanese company seems to be ready with help of various governments.
The whole technology is based on the Dr. Peter Glaser’s idea of SSPS. NASA studies SSPS as the solution to the oil shock problem and continued to research on SSPS. Europe and JAXA joined the SSPS research and today they have come up with a brilliant plan to build a Luna Rig to supply earth with electricity.
