The co-founder of YouTube, Chad Hurley, and CEO of YouTube till 2010, has indicated his plans to launch a rival video service this year(“this year? actually the next month!”).
He was speaking at the South By Southwest(SXSW) conference and has confessed or you can say he has confirmed that the rival to YouTube is to be launched next month : “I wish SXSW was a month later because I could unveil a new product. The product is, apparently, primarily video-based and gives flexibility for people to work together and create content.”
When asked by someone whether to take on his former creation YouTube (sold to Google back in 2006), he responded by saying “We are not setting up to kill YouTube now.”. This pretty suggest that the video sharing site is about to get revolutionized or it will be just another video uploading website.
The online video hosting is also a spot where competition is already high with Vimeo attracting 65 million unique visitors every month and Dailymotion attracting 116 million unique visitors and video hosting powerhouse YouTube users upload 72 hours of video everyday.
