Probably this question might have arised in each and every single person who has buyed and opened the bag of chips and to their amazement they find it only half filled with chips is : Why did they fill this bag with so much air? and our beautiful, logical brains might have given this answer:”They are duping us! They want more money and give less to their customers!”. I was terribly shocked when one of my chips packet was filled with “75 %” of air and only 7-8 chips, well in this case I was certainly duped. But what is the actual reason ?
The actual reason behind filling your wafer bags is that the bags don’t contain oxygen. They are filled with Nitrogen. The oxygen is a type of agent which would make the chips rancid. Rancid : Smelling or tasting unpleasant as a result of being old and stale.
The nitrogen preserves the freshness of the chips and does not react in a negative way with the chips. Nitrogen is also used because it prevents the combustion ( Pressurized Nitrogen is also used as fire extinguisher) and also provides sufficient cushioning during transportation and shipping of the chips, which makes possible for the chips to be intact when you open the packet instead of being in powdered form.
Next time you open the wafer bag. Just think : “Well they are duping me for a reason !”. Let us know in the comments what was your experience with a packet of chips and share the article with your friends.
