The name of the buyer was Rick Champagne(56), a logistics company owner. He quoted ” I really liked Batman growing up and I came here with the intention of buying the car. Sure enough, I was able to buy it. That was a dream come true.”
Batmobile is a black, futuristic two seater car with orange strip line on its borders which make it eye catching. Also the car has a V-8 engine and instruments in the steering wheel, plus innovative items like a push-button transmission. But the Batmobile was more fondly remembered for the gadgets such as a car phone, deploying oil, smoke and nails to evade villians and also the twin rear parachutes for quick turns.
This was the first time the Batmobile was put up for auction. With $ 4.2 million bid price Mr Champagne will also have to pay an additional roughly $ 420,000 in premium. Putting up the cost of car to $ 4.62 million.
History Of “the Batmobile”
- The Batmobile is based on a 1955 Lincoln Futura, a concept car built by Ford Motor Co. in Italy.
- In 1965, the concept car was bought for a nominal $1 by noted customizer George Barris, who had only 15 days and $15,000 to modify the vehicle and get it ready for the Batman Show.
- Barris had supplied vehicles for movies and television shows before, but this one had to be marked differently than the others.
- Barris said the vehicle toured the country after the series and a movie and then was housed in a private showroom in California.
He said it was time to part with the popular car and let a new owner have the Bat keys.
