The rumour that Apple is making a television set named iTV comes in from the Wall Street Journal. iTV is back in the news as some sources have slipped that Sharp and Foxconn are testing the designs for the Cupertino based company.
The sources according to Wall Street Journal have confirmed that several designs are being tested by the now collaborating companies Apple and Sharp. Sources said Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.,(better known as Foxconn) which assembles the iPhone and iPad, has been collaborating with Japan’s Sharp Corp. on the design of the new television set.
But before you get excited read this : “The project is still in the early stages” and the iTV has been in the list of Apple for a quite a few years. But the fact that the CEO Tim Cook, mentioned that “TV has become an area of intense interest for the company.” cannot be slipped.
Meanwhile “The Competitor” Google has already made softwares for television and set-top boxes as well. If this rumours are correct then the War Front between the South Korea based Samsung Electronics and Apple is going to widen and the two technology giants would play a completely new battle.
Mr. Gou, the Chairman of Foxconn Industries, through his investment firm, took a 37.6% stake in the operator of an LCD factory in Sakai, western Japan, to become a co-investor along with Sharp. Under that deal, Foxconn receives up to half of the panels manufactured at the plant and those panels can be used for any TV sets.
So the rumours about the iTV are pretty good!, but the $10 billion Sakai plant’s LCD panels are being used in making Flat TV sets for Vizio Inc..
As the plans of the Apple iTV maybe good for the company, but the investors may soon be skeptical about it as the recent products such as iPhone 5 have been faulty in some terms and sales of iPad mini not reaching the expected horizons, Apple’s iTV plan may soon be put on hold.
What do you think? Is Apple iTV really coming into markets? Are you going to buy it if it is launched?
