40-year Record Broken By Lionel Messi With 86th Goal.

The 40 year old record held by Germany’s Gerd Mueller is broken by Lionel Messi by scoring 86th goal in 2012. The Argentinian scored twice in a match against Real Betis in the Spanish League match on Sunday.

His first goal being a individual effort in the 16th minute which equaled with the Mueller’s record, and then he overtook the German player in the 25th minute. Gerd Mueller’s set his feat in the year 1972.

Messi scored a total of 86 goals till now from which 74 goals were scored for Barcelona and 12 goals for Argentina. Gerd Mueller scored a total of 85 goals for Bayern Munich and West Germany.

Messi also had scored 73 goals for Barcelona in the 2011-12, passing Mueller’s milestone of 67 goals for Bayern Munich in 1972-73. Messi also established a Spanish league record of 50 goals last season.
