Superstar Aamir Khan, fresh from the success of his debut TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’, has been featured on the cover of Time magazine. Khan features on the cover of the Asia edition of the magazine, which will be out next week.
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has become the third Indian actor after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Parveen Babi to be featured on the cover of Time magazine.
“He’s breaking the Bollywood mold by tackling India’s social evils. Can one actor change a nation?” says the blurb on the cover, which features a close-up of the actor looking intensely into the camera.
The 47-year old actor’s show, which wrapped up on August 15, highlighted social evils like female feoticide, sexual abuse and domestic violence.
“The solution has to start with me, with every individual. After all, if these terrible things are happening in my society, then I have a share of the blame, because I’ve done nothing to stop them.
“A solution can only begin to appear once I accept it’s partly my fault, and then you accept that it’s partly your fault, and a third person and a fourth person,” he said.
It was only after his show that the Rajasthan government promised to set up fast track courts to resolve pending female foeticide cases in the state. Aamir was also invited to the Parliament to discuss issue of FDI in pharmaceuticals.
The actor also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to emphasise the plight of manual scavengers.Other than Bollywood actors, Indians who have made it to the cover of the magazine include Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirza, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Narendra Modi.
