The controversial Mayan Calender which spans about 5,125 years .The last date on the calender which was conceivable was 21 December 2012, which has sparked interpretation that world would end on that date.
Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipos Global Public Affairs which conducted the polls for Reuters quoted “Whether they think it will come to an end thru the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven people believe that end of the world is coming”
“Perhaps it is because of the media attention coming from one interpretation of the Mayan Prophecy that world ends in our calender year 2012” added the Research Manager.
Poll results of 16k+ people in 20 countries varied widely. 6% of French,22% of Turks & Americans, 7% Belgians, 8% Brits feared an apocalypso of world in their lifetime.
Some of the voters experience fear about the impending end of the world. The greatest numbers were in Russia and Poland, and the fewest in Great Britain.
The people who believed it were mostly the ones with lower education or income levels or under 35 years old.
The countries participating in polls were China, Turkey, Russia, Mexico, South Korea, the US, Japan, Argentina, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Belgium, France, Canada, Australia, Italy, Great Britain, South Africa, Germany, Indonesia.
